The Hiatus of Hemlock...

I've been at this for quite a while now; both the blogging and the online gaming, and I suppose in many ways, for me they've become somewhat entwined. I don't know what it is that makes me feel that I have to play a bit of an online game, and then go away and bang out thousands of words on what happened, here.   Partly, I think its is a kind of self-justification - I spend a lot of my free time plinking away at some made up and arbitrary task set for me by a group...

The Benediction of Ogden...

A missed session Guild Wars session last week, with both of us finding Real Life to be growing ever more intrusive of late, and I wonder if this gradual but suddenly noticeable shrinking of my spare time is just bad timing and bad luck, or something more fundamentally life changing; me growing up finally perhaps. Anyway, no such impediments this week as we plunged on into Destruction Depths, the next and penultimate step in the Eye of the North campaign. Our various allies, who we'd spent much of the campaign trying to get on-board, are all now in...

The Flak of Fury...

Certainly feels good to be back in the pandemonium of Planetside, and within minutes it was back to business with my long abandoned BR23 Terran Republic Sniper/Support chap. The very first thing that happened upon my arrival in a wall stairwell in the middle of Solsar, where presumably I'd last logged out in exhaustion, was the award of two medals! A nice welcome back, I was suddenly awarded the Two Year Veteran Award, and the Three Year one too, marking my loyal service for all to see on my shoulderpad. Of course I'm a total fraud in this regard, since...

The Cloak of Comfort...

Meanwhile, I seem to have found quite a niche for myself in the EVE Online corp. Life in 'Rockpool' isn't nearly as fraught as I was expecting, and instead of the maelstrom of silent lonely ganking in the dark I was anticipating, things seem on the whole just as placid as back in my previous High-Sec region. Partly, this is due to the geography of it all. Its a dead end that doesn't go anywhere special, and not on any of the main bottleneck routes to the yawning vastness that is 0.0. This means that there's not...

The Flashback of War...

Just a quickie; seems that SOE have given everyone who ever played Planetside a free month, on the house. They could have done a better job of publicising it mind you, and I only found out about it by pure chance. Finding a serene beauty in dead and dying things as I sometimes do, I like to look in on the Planetside forums from time to time, and today, stumbled across this: Planetside Forums: All Old Accounts Reactivated! A quick check on my Station.com accounts page does indeed show that I'm entitled to play Planetside gratis until 20th Jan 2008. I...

The Aspect of Beasts...

Hot on the heels of the prestigious Van Hemlock Game of the Year award, it is indeed, back to Guild Wars: Eye of the North, and a bumper session this New Year's Day in fact, which saw a number of things get done, many of which improved my faith in my own gaming abilities, and mood in general, given the shambolic failures of the previous session posted here.   First job of the night was the final sprint on my regular companion's attempt at Legendary Survivor, a frankly ridiculous title if you ask me, which entails getting...

The Something of 2007...

Oh! Hello! I seem to have vanished in a deluge of holidays and such like, partly giving myself a few weeks off, and partly wallowing in the throes of a fairly savage bout of Seasonal Blues. All very maudlin and the mood takes me from time to time; dark soulsearching hours in which I wonder whether I'm not just a big fat cheat, whether I ought to be playing online games at all, and whether I have any business writing about them on the interwebs. Holiday gaming was mostly EVE Online and Guild Wars this year, with both...
