Forum > New/Replacement Intro Theme Ideas?
Have you considered Frank Zappa's "The Rejected Mexican Pope Leaves The Stage"?
Hey now, you can't change the opening music!! I know it sounds pitiful, but I can't tell you how much it perks up my workday when I hear the "dum! dum-dee-da-dum-dum, dum! da-dee-dum-dum-dum, dum!"
That music IS Van Hemlock...please reconsider.
Now, how does a Yank join your guild in LotRO or DDO? I work evenings, so my mornings and early afternoon is free, and it's hard to find a solid persistant group of mature adults (well, that's probably stretching things).
Must admit I'm very fond of Ticket to the Moon (it is the ELO song your thinking about, right?). That said my vote goes for the original Van Hemlock Show intro.
Yep, I'm with Akely. You had an original theme tune for the first 7 or so shows, then moved on. Retro is all the rage these days, so I hear. Very old out of date tunes from over a year ago are very trendy and self-referential.
I dunno, the Private Eye theme is just brilliant! But maybe keep it for the 'what we're playing' segments and have something snarky and news-related for the news segments?
(totally not ripping off early Yahtzee openers at all. At all.)
In reply to the 'technical' size of the actual download of the podcast thing, does in this age of broadband and terrabytes galore this really still matter to anyone?
Especially to your gamers audience, that tend to have slightly more 'muscular' machines and web-tube-connections anyway?
@DerBart:
It can be an issue for those who listen to podcasts by DLing it onto their phones. Not all phones have much of a capacity (certainly if they're a 18months+ old) so it can be important.
I don't know how much people listen to the podcast mind. And it's difficult to tell without asking or running a poll :)
Bandwidth is not an issue. Compression is bad, mkay?
Wow, I can't believe how excited I am that I now know what the VanHemlock podcast theme music is and can download it to listen to any time I like. (Though I probably won't be nearly as excited when I get to the end of the track and don't hear the customary "Hello there"s!)
As for news show music.... I'll give it some thought. (Maybe).
The samba nerd in me loves the current VH theme! Please don't change it! All I want to know is, how did you make such an inspired choice in the first place?
No overall consensus then, so we'll just keep it as is for now. Cheers all!
(late to the forum and late to this discussion but my two penneth...)
the best thing about the current theme choice is that it doesn't sound like a podsafe version of "mmo music". i'm sure we all love the other mmo podcasts but some of the music used can verge on parody... not mentioning any names (*cough*massively*cough*)
my opinion: a separate theme for news/other would be cool but you've given yourself a tough act to follow with you off-kilter jazz bit. how about a mock 9 o'clock news type theme, á la brass eye, for the news shows? ^_^
How about just using the Brass Eye music?
"Whats the time?"
"Well the big hand is pointing to news, so it must be NEWS O'CLOCK"

Hello there!
What with there being two different sorts of show now instead of just the one, we were thinking of giving the News show some different intro music. Any suggestions would be most welcome!
For copyright reasons, we can't just bang my favourite Electric Light Orchestra track* on the start, so need any suggestions to be 'Podsafe' music. Ideally, the track will lend itself to being used in a similar way to the current music at the start of the show, with room for us to ramble on top of. The opening theme from Stingray wouldn't work, for example!
(The current music is Private Eye from Getting Down To Business, by the Jive Ass Sleepers, by the way)
I've been picking through www.podsafeaudio.com/ and magnatune.com/ as a start, but there are probably dozens of other similar sites out there that I've never even heard of, and the more ears on the case, the better!
Cheers!
Tim
