Forum > How shall I start Guild Wars
Comeing from WoW, I think you'll be pleasantly surprised at the intracies of the eight-skill dual-class mix-n-match combocraft of basic gameplay. I've been at it for years and still haven't exhausted it's potential. The game always *seems* fairly busy to me whenever I'm in there, but it's hard to make real guesses at overall population and health due to the lobby-and-instance based natrue of the world, and it's single-server network architecture.
We tend to make our own entertainment anyway in-guild. You're welcome to come hang out with the legendary Tuesday N00b Club, although it very much is a one-night a week thing (8pm Tuesdays, UK Time, through to 11-12ish). We're always looking for excuses to rerun old missions!
The hired help is actually quite powerful and flexible, particularly the 'Heroes' you get in Nightfall and Eye of the North, and few missions are impossible alone (solo+all AIs). As for community in the larger sense, I'm not a lot of help, never having really found any kind of 'hub' forums and whatnot. Arenanet themselves do not have forums; probably easier for them.
Do say hello anyway, I'm 'Vivian Hemlock'. If you haven't actually bought it yet, I'd recommend Guild Wars: Nightfall as the best starting point.
I think I'll take you up on that offer! I could only do alternate Tuesdays (I do tabletop gaming every other Tuesday) though... I'll give you a shout in-game. I've got all the expansions except Eye of the North and I've started with the original Prophecies campaign... is it possible to play through all the campaigns regardless of starting point and\or level then?
"... is it possible to play through all the campaigns regardless of starting point and\or level then?"
It is possible, but Prophecies is a hellishly slow grind to get anywhere. The other campaigns are a much more pleasant experience, I found.
All of them are fun to play as a single player game as well, as the challenges are tailored for the level you should be. I especially like the cutscenes that allow you to feel part of the story, and let you follow what's going on even if you click through mission text like a well trained MMO player!
Hello there!
If you need some help in any of the campaigns feel free to drop me a pm in-game (Xivvvi Von Habsburg). I've returned to game myself after a two year hiatus to finish up some titles and stuff and to kill the time till GW2 releases.
If I'm not incredibly busy doing something else (working on the Vanquisher title atm) I'd be happy to help.
Besides I'm missing a ton of bonus objectives on most of the prophecies campaign so an excuse to redo them is a good thing ^^
Hello,
I was just catching up on your podcasts and saw mention of this thread. I have been playing for about oooo say 4 years - having recently defected to WOW with the wife however. My guild which they still allow me to stay in is an alliance (well two really) of currently 13 guilds - average of 80-90 per guild. All guilds are for over 30's only and similar to most, local chat is off, as is guild chat and alliance chat is used mainly instead. Getting groups for most things is just a case of starting out with "1 of 8 for ring of fire" as an example and as long as you don't choose a weird dead time you should have a run in a short time.
Organisation is quite good with lots of events e.g. from the front page currently:

I've decided to buy Guild Wars recently but I can't seem to find any established PvE guilds catering for beginners (not surprising given that most peeps are probably done with GW PvE by now).
I didn't really get into it before as I was swallowed by WoW but now I've quit that for being too easy and dull I'm giving GW a crack.
Any thoughts, or shall I just stick with the in-game hired help? :P
Cheers,
Sunk
