Forum > STO; First go @raidisode 'Infected'

[Contains Spoilers] (oh and I wrote this for the sto forums originally so I presumed people reading it had seen it, it's going to be garble if you haven't, don't bother reading it unless you really want to :P)

Review of our (Itteh Bitteh Borg Committeh) first run (Teppo, Turel, Beiz, Me).

Basics; We went into this as blank sheets of paper unhindered by any knowledge of what to expect, with just 4 of us and 'as we were' we were on Mumble (voice server) for the entire duration of it.

We didn't do any skill switching in advance but for completions sake I'll list what we had;

SO-1; DS Science vessel. Heavy Support setup for space. Heavy debuff setup for ground.
SO-2; DS Science vessel. Heavy Debuf/Defensive setup for ****. Healer setup for ground (medic kit).
EO ; Cruiser. No clue about his space setup! Regens shields and that orange dome thing for ground.
TO ; Escort. PewPew I presume. More pew pew for ground I presume.

Mostly greens, blues a little purple.

Space bit;

So we went in, we did some failing to start with on the account (i think) of all of us being fairly experienced gamers that had gotten a bit overconfident with ourselves due to the lack of difficulty in the rest of the game. Once we died repeatedly to waves of spheres we decided to read *gasp* what the point was, shaped up called target, cycled viral matrix's between the 2 science officers and went through it rather smoothly. Tip; you can attack the gate from the other side!

Ground bit;

What shall I say, we died lots until we decided to again 'shape up' we found that buffing up one person with a HoT (Heal over Time) having him rush into the Borg to take out any interlink node(s) and praying he didn't get rooted to much usually took care of that after which we would retreat to a 'corner' and pull the borg along. I would scream frantically if any proto-borg spawned behind. 3 fighting, 1 healing (full on, first time in the game I didn't regret building a proper doctor, all heals where an cool down simultaneously at points).

It's basically just shoot 'n loot till you find the first mini-boss the assimilated captain, we died in the first attempt due to not knowing he'd spawn adds we ressed and had another go using our now tested pull stuff around the corner method that did him in ^^

I think there is another bossy thing between that and the final boss, can't recall was healing people rather frantically at that point, I'm sure the other guys know what they were killing I have no clue however. I'm a doctor Jim.

The Final boss room;

We spent an hour and half figuring out how best to do this, remember we went in blank didn't read up on any of it and were a man short. There was much falling into water and general fail and manic laughter on Mumble. We enjoyed it in a way it's funny in hind sight not so much at the time ^^

First we tried dropping the force field on a node and uploading the virus, just to find out this would start a progress bar on the node and later to find out we needed the drop the other 3 before the first progress bar was full and there was no way in hell we'd manage that with just the four of us after midnight now and tired...
In our attempts at being really fast we did however learn something. Shooting Borg is overrated, send them for a swim! (knock them of the plateaus either whit a weapon or the yellow engineer dome). Doesn't work on the middle plateau you need to shoot those, but the rest really just knock them over the edge, on our final and eventually successful attempt we cleared all the plateaus in no more then 10 minutes I think.
Anyway we eventually discovered the progress bar does not start unless you actually upload the virus, so we then preceded to drop all 4 of the fields without uploading the virus and cycled back after doing this to upload them all in succession, this worked and we took out the middle generator, and died to the queen wasp over the next 7 seconds...

We re-spawned waited for the forcefield to drop (which took forever btw), redid the dropping of the force fields made sure we cleaned the remaining drones out too and were pleased to find out the core was still destroyed, which gave us a little prep time for our encounter with Queen Wasp we essentially used an engineer wall as a line of sight blocker to hide the healer (me) behind and called on Mumble who she was targeting kept that person alive and unloaded damage on her, we won. After nearly 5 hours in there and prolly about half of that time working out how to deal with the final room.

And then as a massive bummer the quest didn't complete for one of us :'( Fix that **** please Cryptic not funny!

Anyway, it's a good encounter overall, the difficulty isn't to bad and I'm totally confident that when we go again and come prepared we'll be able to do it in about 2 to 3 hours if we bring a full 5 people and setup our ground combat properly. And with 4 it would prolly be fine too on a second go.

General advice; Bring hypo's even with a 'full' healer the cooldowns on the heals 'killed' someone every once in a while. Bring something to help deal with root effects and to clean debuffs most deaths were due to 'being infected' rooted where the healer couldn't go there without suicide. In the final room just knock the borg of the plateaus instead of shooting them, drop all 4 fields before you upload the viruses. Pulling the borg onto corners works well. Don't ball up in doorways, the tactical drones will cream you if you do.

And don't stand in the fire, even if it doesn't look like fire :P
