I do agree with Tim assessment about DDO, i.e. short group size, and content slightly higher than general party level played it's role and of course undead beholder.
Now far as Ranger :) – Success of party in DDO depends on all chars, everyone play it's role. Ranges for example can range DPS, or pull or use their high reflex saves. if things where going south your ranger was usually last to die :) I..e it can much easier evade stuff. However rangers was never highest DPS class in DDO ( this been players complain for very long time). Any melee usually can out DPS Ranger ( well unless ranger going melee using Tempest build – two weapon fighter is awesome ).

So I guess what I am trying to say, if you like to play DPS role, you can choose Fighter or Barbarian. Other DPS classes are casters wizards and sorcerers – but they generally harder to play on lower levels.

I know leveling in DDO is a "bitch" but if you going to try DDO next time, you may want to experiment with different class ( as I recall you had low level dwarwen barb or fighter ). Another options is to "Greater reincarnate" – which I think will allow you completely respect you charter, but it will cost you Turbine Points and may not be a good choice at this time.

Regarding the problems with group-sizes my opinion on this has been made up long ago. It is an archaic millstone to social gaming that has to go. Developers need to realize this. How they solve it, by scaling the content, by reducing XP or another mechanic is unimportant.

When is the game-project coming back? You know when you played a "secret" Game for 14 days then talked about it. If I remember correctly L4D2 was the latest. I get a feeling that Tim had such a really bad experience with L4D2 that the whole project kinda stalled. /shrug Probably wrong but anyway… I think it was a fun segment of the show.
