You have at least one listener that knows of the MSX – I had a Toshiba MSX shared with my siblings back in the mid 80′s, it was the Microcomputer that helped me discover a passion for programming when my
cheap dadfather decided to ‘write’ a computer game for us to play. He didn’t really have a clue what he was doing (being around 7 I questioned everything and was disappointed by the lack of answers) and so my solo journey of discovery began. Unfortunately the build quality of these machines was pretty poor and not up to the battering we gave it and so it returned to silicon heaven within a few short years. Despite this I yearned to expand my programming knowledge and did so at every available opportunity.Perhaps my fondest gaming memory of the time was a little known game called Breakout! This is no relation to the bat and ball game more commonly associated with the name but was an adventure featuring Tosh (the blueprint mascot of Toshiba at the time), for the era the game was remarkable and introduced me to some electronic concepts (and the hiss of tape loaders).
Keep up the good work guys, I may infrequently comment on your work but it brings joy to the otherwise hellish tube commute to work.

Count me as another listener who remembers MSX !
At the time, MSX was seen as the "big threat from the East" which was going to dominate the European computer market and take over from the existing western manufacturers systems like Sinclair, Commodore and Atari. A lot of the eastern manufacturers backed the MSX standard, but in the end it bombed due to being late to market – the spectrum and commodore 64 already dominated here in the UK, no appeal in buying an MSX standard computer with very little quality games and software available.
Lots of press coverage at the time predicting the domination of the MSX standard across Europe – always funny to read such articles with the benefit of hindsight!
