Impulse (the Stardock version of Steam) actually gets a lot of the same things on it that Steam does. There's still some Steam exclusive stuff (mainly anything with Steamworks built in) but the variety is actually quite nice. I'd suggest you check it out again, it's changed a lot in a year.
Further notes about American ratings. M (17+) is sold everywhere (including Walmart) but most stores ask for ID before allowing you to purchase it. There have been nebulous claims that getting an M reduces game sales by half over a T (13+)
Wal-Mart (and most other retailers) refuse to sell Adult Only (18+) games. That's when you hit the real drop in sales. Very few games come out rated AO, the only one I'm aware of off the top of my head were the GTA:San Andreas copies that still had Hot Coffee during the time inbetween discovery of the hidden content and the disk re-issue.
Regarding the Blade Runner news, it's not that the licensor wanted 25 million dollars, it's that Gearbox wanted to spend 25 million dollars developing the game. Here is the exact quote: "that one failed on the business side, because the way we wanted to do it we wanted to spend 25 million dollars. And when you do the math on that, we weren't going to make it back."
In response to Jon's open trolling for comments I'd like to say how much I enjoy these podcasts and now the videos too.
I don't really comment often because you guys are basically preaching to the choir.
But your news and views are fascinating and much appreciated. My first port of call for something to listen to while updating my sell orders in Eve.
